Pupil Admissions

Please contact the school office for details of the application procedure.

Lady Katherine C of E Primary is a voluntary Aided School. The Governing Body is The Admissions Authority. We consult with Solihull LEA & Birmingham Diocese to ensure our arrangements are appropriate. The School Governing Body wishes to be part of the LEA structure.

Please refer to the following publications:
Solihull LEA booklet "First steps In Solihull."
DFES documents "School Admissions Code of Practice" & "School Admissions Appeals Code Of Practise."

Safeguarding Children

The school follows the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull Area Child Protection Committee's Child Protection Procedures. This framework for professional practice is followed by all agencies in case of actual and suspected child abuse. The school has a designated member of staff with responsibility for ensuring that procedures for safeguarding children are understood and followed by staff.

Data Protection Act
A number of public bodies including the school, the Local Authority, the Department for Education and Skills and  Ofsted process information on pupils.  In doing so these agencies have to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. This means, among other things, that the data held about pupils must only be used for specific purposes allowed by law. For more details about the data held and to whom it may be passed on click here (pdf format 73 Kb).

Parents and School

We have developed a positive partnership between school and parents, which benefits children in their personal, social and academic development. This partnership is exercised in a variety of ways, including:

  • Our wonderful PTA are instrumental in raising funds for our school, a recent example being money towards our ICT (Information and Communication Technology)facility. It also plans and implements social activities, including very popular breakfast mornings in the Old Hall.

  • Parent volunteers working in school (we have developed a document to help the induction of volunteers into our school). Our recent successful Investors in People review highlighted 'parent volunteers' as an area of best practice. All volunteers are Police checked.

  • The development of a parent and toddler afternoon session, currently Thursday afternoons (1:30-3:15). For information please contact the school office.

  • Annual liaison via our home-school agreement.

  • Termly parent consultations.

  • Regular newsletters including class information sheets.

  • Annual Governors reports to parents.

  • Summer meetings with new Nursery and Reception parents.

  • Invitations to 'special' assemblies and sports days.

  • Parents are always made welcome in our school. Class teachers encourage parents to make appointments to discuss any issues which may arise. These may be of an academic or personal and social nature. Our school encourages all parents to attend the termly parent consultation evenings.

  • All pupils receive a written report at the end of each academic year. Parents are always given the opportunity to comment on the report.

Lady K Care and Play

Through a variety of consultations with both existing and potential parents at our school, it became clear that provision for wrap around care was required. Our Governors oversee 'Lady K Care and Play', which leads and manages aspects of care in our school. We currently offer

School Meals

Our school is fortunate in having an excellent cook who provides an extensive menu. The majority of our children (and indeed staff) choose to eat a meal provided by school, whilst others bring sandwiches from home. Please contact the school office for information regarding payment of school meals and for claim forms regarding applications for free school meals. Any money sent into school should be in a sealed envelope with your child's name and purpose written clearly.

For break times children are encouraged to eat fresh fruit, in line with our healthy eating policy. Fruit can be purchased from school. Milk is provided via the PTA (at a small cost) for those children who request it. We currently operate a 'free fruit' system for Foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils.

School Uniform

School uniform can be purchased from Palmers in Knowle.
Please identify all items of clothing with a name tag.

  • Grey pinafore, skirt or trousers
  • Blue blouse or shirt and school tie or
  • Blue polo shirt with school crest
  • Blue jumper, cardigan or school sweatshirt
  • Brown or black shoes

For physical education (PE):

  • White T shirt, preferably with school crest
  • Navy blue shorts or skirt
  • Plimsoles for indoor work
  • Trainers for outdoor work
  • Tracksuits and sweatshirts are encouraged during the colder months.

A large pump bag, clearly named, should be provided for PE kit. This can be kept in school during term time.

The wearing of jewellery in school is not encouraged. During PE all items of jewellery must be removed for health and safety reasons. Staff are not responsible for looking after such items. If parents decide to have their child's ears pierced then it is recommended this be done at the start of the summer holidays.

Security

The school operates a security system for the safety and welfare of our children. All visitors must enter school via our reception area, sign our visitor's book and inform the school office of their arrival.

Pastoral Care and Pupil Behaviour

Treat other people as you would like them to treat you

All school staff are concerned with the pastoral care of every child. Regular formal and informal discussions between staff alert all concerned to potential issues. If it is felt necessary then parents will be informed of observations. Indeed we encourage parents to keep the school informed of any external events which may adversely affect the child's learning.

Our pupil behaviour policy has been drafted and agreed by pupils, staff, parents and governors. Its aim is to encourage children to make the right decisions. All are aware of our expectations regarding behaviour. Action taken can be in the form of reward and praise or sanctions.

We recognise and have due regard for the Commission for Racial Equality.

Governing Body

Over recent years the composition and responsibilities of the Governing Body have changed significantly. Members approach their role from different backgrounds and perspectives.

As well as approving school procedures and policies the Governing Body deals with financial, personnel, building, pupil admissions and curricular issues. In all matters they deal in close co-operation with the Head teacher and staff in the management of the school.

If any Annual meeting for the parents is called, then this will be held in the Autumn Term.

Copies of Governing Body minutes are located in Headteacher's office.
