Funerals

A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is the opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life, which has now completed its journey in this world, and to commend the person into God's keeping.

As far back into history as we can penetrate, human beings seem to have felt the need for a ceremonial leave-taking of those who have died.

Here at St. Mary's, like other churches, we take funerals very seriously and would want to offer you every possible support during this difficult time. We would want to work with you to provide a service which can reflect the personality of the person who has died and the circumstances of their death. Together we need to hold within God's love our feelings of grief and gratitude, joy and sadness.

How do I arrange a funeral at St. Mary's?

Contact an undertaker and let them know that you want to arrange a service at St Mary's. This service is not just for church members, and we expect our church to be widely used for funerals. You have the option to have your loved one either buried or cremated and the undertaker will help you with that decision. If our church community can be of any help then please do not hesitate to telephone the Vicar, or he can be contacted by your undertaker.

Funerals are a difficult and upsetting subject and if you would like to talk through any matter related to it, which might include making preparations for your own funeral in the future, then we are more than happy to help.

For further information or to arrange a meeting, please contact The Vicar, the Revd Dr James Woodward on 01564 772415 or you can write to him at: The Master's House, Temple Balsall, Knowle, Solihull, B93 0AL.
