Community of the
Sisters
of the Love of God

St. Mary's Church has a particular link with the contemplative community,
whose chief work is prayer built on the offering of the Eucharist
and the regular sharing of the Divine Office. Life and prayer in solitude
is recognised as an important part of the sister's vocation, in accordance
with the Carmelite Spirit of the community.
The Mother house is in Oxford, though there are other houses in Staplehurst,
Hemel Hempstead and New Zealand. There is limited accommodation for
private retreats at all houses in the community and the SLG Press
publishes books and pamphlets on Spirituality. The list of titles

The Delhi Brotherhood
Society

St. Mary's Church has a Special link with the Delhi Brotherhood Society
which is an Anglican religious community working in Delhi. The origin
of the Society spans back over 100 years when a small number of English
priests set out from Cambridge University in England under the inspiration
of Bishop Westcott in 1877. They formed themselves into a small brotherhood
and lived under a simple rule of life.
The community embraces itself in working for the poor in Delhi through
its members.
Today the Society does an enormous task of social development in
the slums of Delhi, especially in the north-east area. As a result
of which currently, about 30,000 people in the Delhi area and 37,000
across Yamuna River benefit from the work.

Right from the beginning the Society's main concern was for the poor,
underprivileged and the downtrodden section of the society, who had
always been exploited by the dominant upper strata. DBS aims at effective
development by the people themselves, and not by the agencies, to
go into the community with absolute respect for people, their culture
and their faith.
St. Mary's is proud of its links with the Delhi Brotherhood and support
its work on a regular basis. A display of photographs taken at a recent
visit to Delhi by James Woodward, can be seen at the back of Church.
