It is home to over 48 older people who receive care and support, either through supported (sheltered) or residential accommodation. These unique early 18th Century buildings, grouped around a courtyard, have been extensively modernised to provide support and care for older people. A caring community for over 300 years The almshouses were founded by Lady Katherine Leveson in her Will of 1674 to provide homes and care for older people. She wanted their lives, in her own words "to reflect the Christian virtues of loving care and concern, whilst representing freedom for all". (see more history).
The care complex consists of self contained units where older people live. The former Master's House and servants' quarters have been converted to units on the ground and first floor levels. There are lounge facilities on both floors, plus provision for assisted bathing, hairdressing and therapy, together with purpose-built kitchen and laundry facilities. Trust and understanding We believe that this community should be a home: a home where a much loved family member can feel content and at ease. It is our policy to help residents play an active role in decision making and also to retain links with the community.
If you want to find out more about care and support here at Temple Balsall then please see our Statement of Purpose.
