Locate were asked to prepare designs for the extension and
re-development of this mid 20thC bungalow in Springfield, Fife.
The new works are to follow a rigorously ecological specification
and it is intended to use the timber frame and unburnt earth brick internal
leaf detail developed by Arc Architects. Apart from clay plastered earth
brick walls, floors will be of local timber, ceilings of clay board and
all paints and finishes will be breathable, non-toxic and biodegradable.
Materials such as pvc and chemically bound boards such as mdf will be
avoided and the new works will be highly insulated, airtight, and buffered
to reduce airborne heat loss and draughts.
Planning and Building Warrant drawings will be undertaken this year with
an anticipated site start late this year or early next. Much of the internal
fit-out will be undertaken on a self-build basis by the Clients.
